On October 24th, Valora Digital from the Valora Group joined us at the University of St. Gallen to discuss current hypes and the future of Quick Commerce. After a quick overview of Valora Digital, Lukas Wohlgemuth and Lauren Wick introduced us to avec now. The case study allowed our students to brainstorm ideas on how to further develop the service of avec now. During the apéro the participants had the chance to present their findings.
GV & PIZZA NIGHT
At our 2nd general assembly, we gave our members an overview of our past events and presented our results of the 2nd club year. In addition, all members were invited to elect the new board. We finished of the evening with delicious pizza and beer and are now looking forward to invite all existing and new members to many cool events in the upcoming semester. At our penultimate event of the spring semester, we were excited to have a diverse group of retail experts join us to discuss the role of luxury & sustainability in retail. The interactive and flexible format of an unconference allowed everyone to participate actively and enter the discussions in which he/she could contribute and learn most. At the apéro, everyone had the chance to further engage with fellow retail enthusiasts and experts from the industry.
WORKSHOP WITH LIDL
With our corporate partner Lidl we discussed and learned about the challenges facing brick-and-mortar retail. During the case study the participants contributed their creative ideas towards a new city store concept. Afterwards, we had the chance to talk to representatives of Lidl Switzerland during an apéro and explore their exciting career opportunities.
Case study: Strategy development for a new city store opening
On March 2, 2022, we gathered with our members to test our Retail & E-Commerce knowledge. We were surprised that Denner has actually been founded already in 1860, before Coop (1969) and Migros (1925)! The questions led to lively discussions and were accompanied by excellent beer from Hermann Bier (brewed in St. Gallen). For the first time this year, our members could win tickets for the HSG.Retail Tech Conference (worth ca. 800 CHF) and the IRM.Retail Startup Showcase. Definitely prizes worth fighting for!

E-COMMERCE SINCE 1999
On November 30, 2021, we were happy to get together with Samy Liechti, HSG Alumni and founder of BLACKSOCKS. With the launch of BLACKSOCKS in June 1999, not only was the first sock subscription born, but also the first online subscription. The Swiss online subscription pioneer shared with us his experiences and the challenges he faced while building BLACKSOCKS. Afterwards discussions continued during a nice apéro.
VALUE CREATION IN RETAIL
with Retail Capital Partners
On October 11, we welcomed our partner Retail Capital Partners (RCP) for a short presentation, a collaborative workshop and a tasty apéro. Together with senior professionals our members had lively discussions about the potential value creation in the current shift from brick-and-mortar to online. Three teams cracked a case and participated in a pitching competition with a delicious prize. Congratulations to the winning team and a big thank you to everyone who took part, we were impressed by all creative inputs and ideas.
Presentation, Workshop & Networking Apéro

On September 22, the Retail & E-Commerce Club together with the Marketing Club invited HSG students for the first official club event of the semester. Students had the chance to meet members and the club board in a casual atmosphere at Bar Baracca and prove their skills at an intense game of beer pong.
Our first general assembly took place on May 27 via Zoom. As a special guest, Constantin Hilt, former CEO of Siroop, was invited. He talked about building up a marketplace, how the company came to a halt and what he learned from the mistakes that have been made in the process.

LUXURY RETAILING OF TOMORROW
On May 18, we welcomed Nina Müller, CEO of Jelmoli and Daniel Raab, CEO of Fashionette, for a virtual panel discussion that is all about luxury shopping. From the perspective of an omnichannel retailer and from the one of an online pure player, we dealt with exclusivity, shop-in-shop and the hands-on services in the luxury sector.
RETAIL QUIZ NIGHT
On March 2, we invited our club members and HSG students to an intense online Kahoot session about current topics in the retail industry. Congratulations to Mike #1, Jessica #2 and Philippe #3 for successfully completing the 45 questions! Apart from long-lasting fame and fortune, our three winners were awarded with shopping vouchers and local specialties from St. Gallen.

VIRTUAL PANEL DISCUSSION
On December 7, about 40 HSG students snapped the chance to listen and participate in a lively debate about the future of e-food in Switzerland. Speakers from major online supermarkets and other industry experts provided the students with exclusive insights and learnings about the current challenges in this fast-growing market.

DIGITAL CAMPUS FAIR
The Retail & E-Commerce Club participated in the first digital campus fair, which was hosted by the Student Union (SHSG) on November 24. During the fair, students were able to reach out to us and to learn about our member program in a safe, virtual setting.
On October 8, we welcomed Niklas Etzel, HSG-Alumni and Co-Founder of Experify. He gave us first-hand insights on bis customer experiences start-up and challenged our members in a case study to pitch potential business strategies for Experify, while providing direct feedback.
